HANTURAYA PUTRAJAYA - Carburetor Dung
Suara mu yang lantang melawan, siapa punya?!
Rumah mu yang indah tersergam, siapa punya??!
Hidup mu yang kenyang senang-lenang, siapa punya???!
Kebebasan mu yang ada, siapa punya?!
Cuba-cuba naikkan suara,
Aku heret, aku ikat, aku tangkap, aku sumbat!
Cuba-cuba naikkan kepala,
Aku ketuk, aku lepuk, aku luku, aku cantas!
Cuba-cuba celikkan mata,
Aku cucuk, aku sembur, aku genyeh, aku jolok!
Jangan lupa!
Aku yang berkuasa!
Pagi hari kan ku terkam!
Pintu rumah kan ku terjang!
Kan ku berkas, kan ku bungkus!
Kan ku heret mu kedalam!
Jangan kau lupa!
Jangan kau alpa!
Ingat lah semua!
Aku yang berkuasa!

After a long struggle, cons and empty promises, JB skapunk mob Plague of Happiness has releases their long-overdue debut album 'Kawan', a DIY self produced, self finance CD. This is punkrock to the bone.Third wave ska assault full of songs about positivity, empowerment and unity.
Joe Kidd sums it up best in his review (he rate the album
):
After so many recording attempts for this project; time and time again
being ripped-off by studios, dragged around by crap production people,
offers by a major label (who threatened them with total boycott if they
didn’t sign the contract!) etc., Johor’s main ska-punk proponent PLAGUE
OF HAPPINESS finally decided to give their best in a posh studio in
Singapore; self-financed, self-dictated! (more)
As a personal friend to this band, i feel so proud to hear the opening track Resah Awan with a nicely arranged keyboard + horn sections. The overall album production is clean, on par with all the CDs at the megastores. Not too spicy nor heavy.
Konspirasi is their best track (for me at least). A song that could make u mosh and dance at the same instance with all the thumping drums, skanky guitarwork and uptempo horn beat. (They once forced an organiser to cut-short their set due to crowd frenzy when this song was performed. I wrote about that 'incident' here)
And for all their effort, it is only fair if maybe u could give em a listen here > a 4-song stream (Kawan, Konspirasi, Resah Awan and Malam). Available at DIY-friendly shops for RM25 (such as Joe Kidd's Ricecooker shop at CM and Auntie's at Campbell).
To Nas,Kudut & Gengx...If u're reading this, i wish u all CONGRATULATIONS for a job well done
A few months back I had a small chat with Joe Kidd at his Ricecooker shop. Nothing fancy, we just conversed about the scene old and new. Among others he recommended me to checkout this reggae/soul/funk band The Aggrobeats which he spoken highly of.
A side project of Edy and Bakri (of the Gerhana Skacinta fame), The Aggrobeats draw inspirations from current reggae favourite sons, Los Angeles' The Aggrolites to soul legend James Brown. and when the band was slated to perform at Laundry during the 'Alompak Ago Go' series last week, i was tempted to find out.
As quoted from their Myspace bio; 'an aggressive music with an aggressive attitude on stage, the band crystallized their musical ideals for the genre by cutting down the ska beat and mixed with funk and soul into it '...and they certainly proved that
After several EPs and countless low and high profile shows, KL punkrock One Buck Short will soon release their debut album Halal & Loving It soon. 3 songs can be streamed here
1. Kelibat Korupsi (watchout for the 'dikir barat' midway thru)
2. Fast Times
3. 10:04
On Sunday i was offered a last-minute free ticket to the My Chemical Romance concert in Stadium Merdeka,KL.
Eventhough i'm not into MCR (no offence to any fan who read this); as a typical Malaysian, you should appreciate anything F.O.C
When we reach there the opening bands, local punx One Buck Short (i love 'em to death) and RapRock(?) outfit Pop Shuvit(?) had just finished pumping up the 10,000 or so crowd.
At 2015 Gerard Way & Co came onstage and I think they put on an awesome show in 80-minute blitz (theStar review here).
Fans who missed the boat might want to checkout clips of the show which has since resurfaced on YouTube:
Wecome to the Black Parade, Helena, Cancer, Teenagers, Give Em Hell Kid & The Sharpest Lives
Thanx to Nafeesa and her friends for the RM253 ticket
p.s: Today is Sultan of Selangor's Birthday...Happy Birthday Tuanku...bile lagi? takkan nak join KJL kot?

In addition to Search (see below) and err..4U2C, I have to add this highly respected band Cromok.Sam, Din (RIP), Karl and Miji were Malaysian students studying in University of Wollongong, Sydney when they decided to form a thrash metal band in late 80s. They caused quite a sensation in the Sydney underground scene with their brand of unique straight up thrash metal sounds back then.
Always keen to stick to their roots, Cromok's blend of metal with Malay traditisional elements made them some sort of a local icon ..as evident in the adaptation of 'Ulek Mayang' (a Terengganu folk song) as the intro to 'Metallurgical' (from their defining debut album 'Image of Purity').
last month i ran into Sam buying a nasi bungkus at Gerai Kak Nor, Pasar TTDI. Apparently he is currently an engineer at the nearby VETS building (formerly IBM tower)

It was 1986 . I went to a seedy music shop at the nearby kompleks PKNS to get a copy of Search's 'Langit dan Bumi' cassette straight after one religious class (kelas mengaji darjah tiga). They successfully taught me 3 fundamental things in life:
2) loosen up a bit
3) and be a good kid at the same time.

Plague of Happiness is the undisputed local Zapin heroes. But recently they have been very inactive. It was almost a year since i attended their last show. Hey Nas, Arab, Kudut and Gengx..are u guys on 'infinite hiatus'? (and Nas...any new progress on our plan to xplore IndoChina/Silkroad?...heheh)
For those not familiar, you might be interested to get a taste of their musical xtravaganza ... but of course la any Academy Fantastic contestant is a thousand more times more bloody talented
Correction: ' It was almost a year since i attended their last show'
actually i saw them in November at Singapore Skapunk Fest...so technically less than a year laa...(ala mamat niii..itupun die nak clarify....macamla penting sangat..isappp aaa)
