double-dosage of punkrock remedy in my backyard? smells delicious...but too bad i cant make it :(
first, San Jose,California-based pop-punkers No Use for a Name will hit Ruums next weekend. One of many bands on FatWreck roster that I grew up listening to...'Dumb Reminders' is literally one of my favourite anthemic song, period
then, come Dec 11, MxPx will perform at No1 cafe, Jln TAR (err..never heard of this venue before). The trio from Bremerton, Washington has been championing skatepunk since 1992. Their latest album 'Secret Weapon' is a return to form after a series of mediocre effort. But 1996's 'Life in General; is still their classic

exhilarating that fresh, gimmick-free punk rock can be. The release of
their third full-length, They Came From the Shadows, marks their first Fat Wreck Chords release, and easily their most anticipated offering to date. In late June, The Boss joined fellow Jersey's favourite sons The Gaslight
Anthem onstage at Hyde Park in London. Checkout this super high-quality video
of them absolutely slaying "The '59 Sound". Bet you'll love it
Yeah, yeah, good things come in small packages and all that crap, but Surrender really does take the piss. The second of two EPs from the seminal Philadelphia outfit this year, following on from June's Amnesia on Bridge Nine, Surrender
clocks in at under seven minutes and is nothing short of fantastic.
Opening things up in style, 'Sacred' is one of the best tracks of 2009, with its frantic guitars leading up to a killer chorus and a superb sing-along second half, while the heavy stop-start rhythms of 'Worms' shows that Paint It Black can do much more than just super fast, super pissed off offerings, like the 46 second long 'Cipher' which follows afterwards.
Everything Paint It Black have done to date has been bloody great, and Surrender is no exception, in fact it could arguably be their best work yet.
Tracklist:
1.Sacred 1:47
2.Worms 2:17
3.Cipher 0:46
4.Surrender 2:02
Slick Shoes, the god of melodic skatepunk from Southern California, at their finest. checkout this 2minutes14seconds clip of the band performing 'darko' at the Vancouver Warped Tour.
wishing i was there in the moshpit
i'm talking about the annual Vans Warped Tour, now in its 15th installment. This year the 46-date roadshow began in June and ends in August.
The tour started in 1995 as a showcase for skate punk (such as Lagwagon, NOFX, No Use For A Name etc) and third wave ska (Rancid, Less Than Jake, Mighty Bosstones etc), but later began to feature mostly post-hardcore, pop punk and metalcore acts, and the current 2009 edition line-ups has evolved to offer diversity of genres (3oh!3, Millionaires, Jeffree Star etc) which is kinda shitty and undermining the spirit of punkrock.
What the heck...capitalism rules...i still wish one day i could mosh in the sweaty pit
(read short history of Warped tour 1995-2008 here)
Bands on the line-up this year that i dig:
This year, Bali punkrock god Superman Is Dead was invited too to blast the stage 2 videos; 1) pit report from day1 in Pomona, California (featuring sets from Superman Is Dead and Anti-Flag)2) NOFX with their rendition of 'Dinosaurs Will Die' at Phoenix, Arizona leg more vids here
